We Are Sunshine Division
Providing local hunger relief for over a century
Winter Wonderland is the largest fundraiser for Sunshine Division, a food relief organization that’s been providing free immediate food relief to Portland metro families in need since 1923. This holiday season, Sunshine Division proudly celebrates 102 years of community service!
Originally founded in 1993, Winter Wonderland was purchased by Sunshine Division with a grant almost a decade ago. All proceeds from Winter Wonderland directly benefit Sunshine Division’s year-round hunger relief programs, which serve approximately 100,000 households annually.
Sunshine Division offers food assistance five days a week at their food pantry located on SE Stark St, and 24-hour food assistance through their partnership with the Portland Police Bureau, who store Sunshine Division food boxes at each police precinct to be dispatched at any time.
In April 2020, Sunshine Division launched their temporary weekly home-delivery program, which is now a core program and provides critical food assistance for nearly 20,000 people a year who may not have access to reliable transportation or are home-bound for various reasons.
Every holiday season, Sunshine Division home-delivers food boxes and turkey meal kits to thousands of families across Portland with help from their dedicated volunteers. This is the organization’s founding tradition, and it’s taken place every December since 1923.
Sunshine Division’s next holiday meal delivery will start at Portland International Raceway on Saturday, December 21st.
Sunshine Division serves thousands of additional families and individuals in need across the metro area in partnership with close to 200 other social service agencies in the year, expanding the organization’s reach to Portland’s outer suburbs while serving a diverse population.
In addition to food relief, Sunshine Division funds new school clothes for low-income children through their Izzy’s Kids program more commonly known as “Shop with a Cop,” which pairs Portland Police officers and first responders with kids for a one-on-one shopping experience.
